Notes on outdoor shooting:
FYI: The headshots with solid backgrounds (solid white, black, gray, blue, green) were shot indoors. The headshots with textured backgrounds (brick or other blurred out locations) were shot outside.
- If you want to do outdoor shots, you must be absolutely 100% comfortable with the current climate. If you sweat easily, or your hair gets crazy on hot days, summer shooting is not feasible. If you get cold in temperatures below 50 degrees, winter shooting is not feasible. I can not warm you up or cool you off on extreme days. Shooting in layers is not flattering.
- If you want to shoot outside, the sun has to be out. No heavy clouds, rain, snow, or wind. I wish I could command the weather to be perfect every day, but NYC can be a gloomy place.
- If you would not be happy with only shooting indoors, you probably should not book with me. I can not guarantee that the weather will be suitable for outdoor photos. I can not reschedule because of the weather.
(Tip: If you absolutely must shoot outside, email me and I will let you know of last minute cancellations. That way, you will have an idea of what the weather will be like a few days in advance.)
Misc notes:
- It's extremely important that you like a variety of the images in my portfolio, not just one or two. If you only like one or two, I guarantee that it is the actor in the photograph you like, which has nothing to do with my photography. It's okay if there are images that you do not like, but the ratio should be heavily weighted towards photos you do like.
- Switching from straight hair to curly? Reminder from my FAQ page that the initial time you spend with the hair and makeup artist does not cut into our shooting time. Any major changes after that would cut into your shooting time. If you have naturally wavy hair, you should come in with it straightened and then we can wet it half way through so it will curl back up (that's faster than straightening it). In general, I recommend keeping your hair how you will wear it to the majority of your auditions. Also, if you want to shoot indoors and outdoors, you will need to decide if you want the curly hair to be inside and the straight hair to be outside or visa versa. There is not enough time to do every combination.
- Be careful not to pick out only beautiful women on my site as examples of what you like. It happens all the time. My goal is not to make you look like someone else. Also, please do not bring in photos of men as examples of what you like. Women photograph very differently than men.
